Black Friday 2026 is on Friday 27 November and Cyber Monday on 30 November. For a clothing brand, the sale itself is the easy part. What breaks is everything around it: hundreds of "is this in M?" messages, discount codes that "don't work", "will it arrive before Christmas?", and exchanges for the wrong size a week later.
This guide is a checklist for clothing and fashion brands that sell on Instagram, WhatsApp and their own site: what to do in each of the five weeks before, Instagram post and story ideas that start conversations, captions and WhatsApp messages you can copy, and how to answer the rush of DMs without a team working until 2am.
We make TailorTalk, an AI sales agent that answers Instagram and WhatsApp messages for fashion brands, and say so where we mention it.
Black Friday 2026 in one minute
- Dates: Black Friday 27 November 2026, Cyber Monday 30 November. The five days from Thanksgiving (26 November) to Cyber Monday are often called Cyber Week or Cyber 5. Many brands start early-access sales a week or two before.
- Last year US shoppers spent $44.2 billion online over the five days from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, according to Adobe, and Shopify merchants sold $14.6 billion worldwide over the weekend, with clothing tops and pants among the hottest categories.
- More of it starts in chat and in AI assistants: Adobe expects traffic from AI tools to US retail sites to grow 130% this season.
- For clothing, the questions repeat: size, stock, colour, delivery date, returns and exchanges, and "my code isn't working". Write the answers down before the sale, and decide who (or what) sends them.
- On WhatsApp, offers to past customers go out as paid marketing templates, only to people who agreed to hear from you. Replies to people who message you first are far cheaper, so a sale that makes people message you works better than a blast.
What Black Friday looks like for a clothing brand
The size of the weekend is easy to underestimate. Adobe counted $11.8 billion in US online spending on Black Friday 2025 and $14.25 billion on Cyber Monday, with 57.5% of Cyber Monday's online sales made on a phone. Over the whole 2025 holiday season, apparel was one of the three biggest categories, at $49.0 billion online in the US.
Shoppers are also asking before they buy. Salesforce estimates that AI and AI agents influenced 20% of orders worldwide over Cyber Week 2025, through product recommendations and customer service chats. Adobe saw traffic to US retail sites from generative AI tools rise 693% over the 2025 season, from a small base, and forecasts another 130% this year.
Clothing has a problem other categories don't: fit. A shopper who would buy a TV on a product page asks about a jacket first. Is it true to size? How long is it on someone 5'4"? Is the black in stock in L? On a normal day a team can answer those. On Black Friday they come in hundreds, mostly in the evening, and every hour without an answer is a sale that goes to a brand that did answer. Harvard Business Review found that firms that contacted a lead within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify it as firms that waited even an hour longer.
Black Friday checklist for clothing brands, week by week
| When | What to do | Why |
| 5 weeks out (late October) | Pick the offer and the products. Check stock by size, not just by style. Write the sale's terms: dates, which items, returns and exchange window, delivery cut-off for Christmas. | Every DM you'll get is a question about one of these. |
| 4 weeks out | Build an early-access list: a "comment EARLY" post, a link in bio, a WhatsApp opt-in on checkout and in the order confirmation. | People who asked to hear from you are the ones you can message on WhatsApp, and they open. |
| 3 weeks out | Write the answers to the 15 questions you always get (sizes, fit, fabric, delivery, returns, payment, codes). Load them into your quick replies or your AI agent. | This is what keeps reply times short on the day. |
| 2 weeks out | Shoot the content: outfit bundles, try-ons in two or three sizes, a gift guide by budget. Schedule posts and stories. Get WhatsApp templates approved by Meta. | Templates need approval before you can send them. |
| Black Friday week | Open early access to your list. Post daily. Set away messages that promise a reply time. Watch stock by size and update the agent or replies when a size sells out. | Selling a size you don't have creates the angriest DMs of the year. |
| Cyber Monday and after | Last-sizes posts, then order updates, an exchange flow, a review request and a thank-you to first-time buyers. | Black Friday buyers are next year's regulars if the exchange goes well. |
Black Friday Instagram post ideas for clothing brands
The best Black Friday posts for a fashion brand do one of two things: show the clothes on real bodies, or get people to message you. Ideas that do both:
- "Comment EARLY for first access." Post the sale date and ask people to comment a keyword. Each commenter gets a DM with the early link, which also starts a chat you can answer later. Instagram lets a business send one private reply to each comment, within 7 days of it.
- The same outfit in three sizes. One look on three people, with each one's height and size in the caption. It answers the fit question before it's asked.
- Outfit bundles at one price: "the office look", "the party look", "the weekend look", each with a code.
- A gift guide by budget: under $50, under $100, under $200 (or your currency). Gift buyers need help with sizes, gift wrap and delivery dates, so end it with "DM us who it's for".
- A countdown story the week before, with Instagram's countdown sticker, so followers get a reminder when the sale opens.
- Behind the scenes: packing the first Black Friday orders, the stockroom, the team. It makes a small brand feel like people, not a discount.
- "Last sizes" stories on Saturday and Sunday: one product per slide, the sizes left, a link sticker.
- A Cyber Monday post for the people who missed it: one final code, or the online-only items.
Our guide to automating Instagram DMs shows how to set up the comment-to-DM step and keyword replies.
Black Friday Instagram captions for clothing brands
Short captions you can adapt. Each ends with something to do, because a comment or a DM starts a conversation you can sell in, and a like doesn't:
- "Our Black Friday sale opens Friday at 9am. Comment EARLY and we'll DM you the link the night before."
- "Same dress, three sizes, three heights. Not sure about yours? DM us your height and usual size."
- "30% off everything we make, for four days only. Free exchanges until 15 January."
- "The gift guide is here. Tell us who you're shopping for in the comments and we'll pick something."
- "Back in stock for Black Friday, in every size. Last time it sold out in a weekend."
- "Packing your orders as fast as we can. Thank you for a huge first day."
- "Cyber Monday, final call: the code ends at midnight."
Make the terms in the caption match what your replies say. If the caption says "free exchanges", the first DM will ask until when.
Black Friday story ideas
- A poll a week before: "Which should be in the sale? A or B." It tells you what to stock and warms people up.
- A question sticker: "Ask us anything about sizing." Answer the best ones in the next stories.
- The countdown sticker, shared again on the morning of the sale.
- A "what's left" story every evening of the weekend, with link stickers to each product.
- A Cyber Monday story with the last code and the delivery cut-off for Christmas.
Black Friday WhatsApp messages for clothing brands
WhatsApp is where a sale turns into an order: people send a screenshot, ask for their size and pay. Three kinds of messages matter, and each is treated differently by Meta:
- Messages you send first (an early-access offer, a "back in stock") are marketing templates. They need the customer's opt-in and Meta's approval, and Meta charges for each one delivered, by country.
- Order confirmations and shipping updates are utility templates, much cheaper than marketing ones.
- Replies to someone who messaged you first are service messages, inside a 24-hour window that each new customer message opens again.
- Selling in the US? WhatsApp doesn't currently deliver marketing templates to US phone numbers (+1) at all, so a US Black Friday plan on WhatsApp is about answering the people who message you, not broadcasting to them. Instagram, email and your site carry the announcement.
- Elsewhere, WhatsApp also limits how many marketing messages each person receives from all businesses, so in the busiest week of the year some of yours may not be delivered. Send fewer, better-targeted ones.
- Running click-to-WhatsApp ads for the sale? When a shopper messages you from the ad and you reply within 24 hours, Meta doesn't charge for your messages to them for up to 7 days.
Sample Black Friday messages to customers
Early access (marketing template, to people who opted in): "Hi {{1}}, our Black Friday sale opens to you a day early: Thursday at 7pm, 30% off everything. Reply SIZE with your size and we'll tell you what's in stock for you."
Back in stock (marketing template): "Hi {{1}}, the {{2}} you asked about is back in {{3}}, and it's in the Black Friday sale. Want us to hold one?"
Order confirmation (utility template): "Thanks {{1}}, we've got your order {{2}}. It ships by {{3}}. Need a different size? Reply here and we'll swap it before it leaves."
Away message on the day (free WhatsApp Business app): "We're answering Black Friday messages as fast as we can. Send the product screenshot, your size and your city, and we'll reply within 2 hours."
Our WhatsApp templates library has more examples to start from, and our guide to WhatsApp Business auto reply covers greeting and away messages in the free app.
Black Friday WhatsApp Status ideas
Status is free and shows to customers you have saved as contacts who have also saved your number, which is why small brands use it heavily. Post the sale date a week before, one product per Status on the day with the sizes left, and "last day" on Cyber Monday. Add "reply to this Status to order": a reply opens a chat, and a chat is a sale you can answer.
How to handle the Black Friday DM rush
Most of the messages a clothing brand gets on Black Friday are one of these:
| Question | What a good reply needs |
| "Price?" / "Is this in the sale?" | The sale price of that exact product, from a screenshot or a comment. |
| "Do you have it in M?" | Live stock by size, not yesterday's. |
| "Is it true to size?" | Your size chart plus fit notes for that item: runs small, relaxed fit, length. |
| "Will it arrive by…?" | Delivery times by country or city, and the Christmas cut-off. |
| "My code isn't working" | The codes, what they apply to, and when they end. |
| "Can I exchange it?" | The exchange window for sale items, and how to start one. |
Three ways to answer them, from simplest to most capable:
- Saved replies and away messages, free in the WhatsApp Business app and in Meta Business Suite for Instagram. Answers you send by hand, and an automatic "we'll reply soon". Fine up to a few dozen chats a day.
- Keyword automation (comment-to-DM tools). Sends the same reply to everyone who uses a keyword. Great for "comment EARLY", weak for "is the black one in L?".
- An AI sales agent connected to your catalogue. It reads the screenshot, checks the size in stock, answers fit and delivery questions from your policies, sends the product link, and hands the chat to a person for custom orders or complaints.
Whatever you use, set two rules before the sale: when a person takes over (a complaint, a large order, a question it can't answer), and what happens when a size sells out, so nobody is told it's in stock.
We compared the Instagram DM tools fashion brands use and the WhatsApp tools for clothing stores, with prices.
After Cyber Monday
- Send order and shipping updates on WhatsApp: they cut "where is my order?" messages.
- Make exchanges easy. A sale buyer who gets the right size quickly comes back; one who waits two weeks writes a review about it.
- Ask happy buyers for a Google review a few days after delivery.
- In January, message first-time Black Friday buyers who opted in with something for them, not another sale.
- Look at what people asked. The questions you answered most are your next size chart fixes, FAQ entries and product page improvements.
Where TailorTalk fits
TailorTalk is an AI sales agent for fashion brands on Instagram, WhatsApp and the website. It answers from your catalogue and live stock, reads product screenshots, asks for size and city, sends the link to buy, and hands over to your team when it should. On Black Friday that means every "price?" and "in M?" gets an answer in seconds, at 2am too.
Samyakk, a saree brand, uses it for more than 1,000 Instagram inquiries a day, and Mysore Saree Udyog for more than 8,500 leads a month on WhatsApp and Instagram.
It connects to Instagram, WhatsApp and Shopify. Plans start at $49 a month ($39 billed yearly) for Instagram and the website; WhatsApp comes with Growth, $112 a month ($89 yearly). Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, enough to set it up before Black Friday. See pricing, or how we compare with other tools.

FAQs
When is Black Friday 2026?
Friday 27 November 2026, the day after Thanksgiving in the US. Cyber Monday is 30 November 2026.
How should a clothing brand prepare for Black Friday?
Start five weeks out: choose the offer and check stock by size, build an early-access list, write answers to the questions you always get (size, fit, delivery, returns, codes), shoot and schedule content, get WhatsApp templates approved, and decide who answers messages during the sale.
What should I post on Instagram for Black Friday?
Posts that show the clothes on real bodies or start a conversation: a "comment EARLY" post, one outfit in three sizes, outfit bundles, a gift guide by budget, a countdown story, "last sizes" stories over the weekend and a Cyber Monday final call.
Can I send Black Friday offers on WhatsApp?
Yes, through the WhatsApp Business Platform, as marketing templates approved by Meta, and only to people who opted in to hear from you. Meta charges per delivered message by country. WhatsApp doesn't currently deliver marketing messages to US phone numbers, so in the US use it to answer customers who message you first. Those replies are service messages and cost far less.
What is a good Black Friday message to customers?
Short, personal and specific: who it's for, what the offer is, when it opens, and one thing to do, such as "reply with your size". Early access for people who opted in usually beats a general blast.
How do I handle all the DMs on Black Friday?
Write answers to the common questions before the sale, set an away message that promises a reply time, use comment-to-DM for keyword posts, and use an AI sales agent connected to your stock for size, price and delivery questions, with a person for complaints and custom orders.
